It’s Lori!

The photo I posted yesterday is of Lori, our new intern. It’s a little bit scary how much Lori and I resemble each other, which is why I posted the photo. I wanted to see if people thought it was me. Because, as we were shooting this last wedding together, I kept thinking I was looking at myself in the mirror when I glanced over at her shooting!

Lori just joined our team this Fall, and we are so excited to have her here with us.  She just returned from a one year sailing excursion around French Polynesia and brings the peace, simplicity and clarity that she found out at sea here with her every day she works with us.  She also has an amazing eye for details, composition, lighting and design. We’re so happy to welcome her to our team. So, here she is. Meet Lori, my long lost sister!

Farewell, Lauren “Baller” McCay!

So, the Summer was just so incredibly busy that we never got to blog about some of the stuff that was going on here in the studio, behind the scenes of all of the shoots.  We were so fortunate to have Lauren spend her Summer with us here as our first official intern.  She is the photo editor for her college paper at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill but is originally from Del Mar and decided she should do more over the Summer than hang out on the gorgeous beaches of Southern Cali. We’re pretty flattered that she chose to spend so much time with us:-)

Lauren brought sunshine and warmth with her the second she stepped foot into our studio. She is one of the quickest learners I have known, has a great eye for detail, a tremendous sense of humor, and good taste in music.  She can always recognize a “baller” image, was willing to listen to lots of Ben Folds and drove with Rick and me for 3 hours each way to shoot her first wedding with us in Malibu. It was also so nice to have another female to help me in giving Rick a hard time, all the time!  We feel so lucky that we got to work with this brilliant, hilarious and cheerful lady!  We miss you Lauren, but we’re sure you are making us proud in Chapel Hill.

The Winners!

We recently had a contest for honeymoon photos. We received some super cool submissions. You guys are super creative!  It was so fun to see them, but hard to choose. The winners receive a gift card to the Prado for some drinks and passes to MoPA’s Rock and Roll exhibit, which is a MUST SEE if you are a lover of rock and photography.  Here are the three winners:

Anne + Kelvin, Hawaii

Hayley + Jordan, British Colombia

Jill + Alan, Maui

Anne + Kelvin get honorable mention for this, because it's hilarious!

Baby Layla

Just over a year ago, we photographed Mari and Fred’s [awesome] wedding when our son was only a month old.  Then two months ago, we photographed Mari and Fred’s little Layla at one month old.  And more recently, we photographed Layla at 3 months. It’s so cool to get to capture couples experiencing the huge milestones in their lives, while we are also experiencing them.  Mari and Fred have a beautiful family, and we are so happy they let us in on such a special time in their lives.

The lovely ladies: Layla with her big sister, Lani, and with her Mama, Mari.
Pure happiness.
Precious little toesies.
Another perk of my job….getting to hold little babies!

The Force…

We were in full force at Norm and Tara’s wedding in Malibu with our amazing team.  Ok, so we look tired! But that should just show you how hard we work for our couples:-)

We are so happy to have Lauren, the amazing intern, and Andrew, the stellar photographer, on our team.  These guys are awesome. Consider yourself lucky if you’ve gotten to meet and work with them… we sure do.
