Razan + Andy | Gaslamp, Seaport Village and Coronado

This was such an awesome shoot! Yes, the locations were great, and the weather was wonderful…but most importantly, this couple was just amazing. Razan and Andy were ready to have fun and just radiated with love for one another during the entire shoot. We explored downtown San Diego’s garages, alleys, loading docks, textures, shadows, steps (the many, many steps of the Convention Center!) and views. During the shoot, we really just felt like we were hanging out with some friends, doing what we love to do…finding cool spots for taking photos. I did end up on Rick’s shoulders for the first three photos you see here. I needed to get higher up to get this shot, so Rick just set his camera down and said, “hop on.” It’s always an adventure with Rick! And I’m sure the sight was amusing for Razan and Andy. In fact, I bet in the photo above, they are laughing at us! After downtown, we then ventured on to Seaport Village and ended up in Coronado for sunset. This shoot was like a little sample of some of the best San Diego has to offer… And it all ended perfectly when Andy started playing Weezer’s “Island in the Sun” over on Coronado, while they looked out towards the San Diego skyline. What a sweet, sweet couple! We cannot wait for this wedding!

Savannah in Portland

My cousin in Portland recently had a sweet, sweet baby girl, Savannah. I flew up there for a few days to hold this little baby and take some photos…and here she is! It’s so cool to be able to experience my life through the camera because I am able to get close and observe the details, to pull back and view things from a different perspective and to share how I see things. What I saw on this trip was not just a newborn baby but a new-born Mom. It was so cool to witness my cousin’s transformation into motherhood. And a beautiful Mama she is! I’m so happy I was able to spend this time there and document the beginnings of a family…

Marie And Sean | The Prado

Some images from a gorgeous Spring wedding at The Prado… Marie and Sean are a really relaxed, low-key couple who are obviously head over heals in love. They planned an afternoon wedding in beautiful Balboa Park on a gorgeous Spring day. Their decor was amazing! They incorporated a lot of old books into their center pieces and even made paper flowers from the pages. Since they are both teachers and lovers of theater, this was perfect. Another touch I loved…Marie had fabric from her Mother’s lace wedding dress added to her own dress. The neckline was absolutely gorgeous! There were so many sweet, handmade touches at this wedding. For their first dance, they danced to “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” but an incredibly sweet version by Ingrid Michaelson. I felt like this song was just so fitting for them… understated, authentic, simply and absolutely lovely. Best wishes to this lovely couple! I can tell they are going to continue to be very, very happy together.

Lusha + Rodion | North Park + Torrey Pines

Rodion and Lusha are a laid back couple who are enjoying life together with their doggies in their neighborhood of North Park. Lusha is in school for fashion design, and her fashion sense really added a lot to this shoot. I love how each outfit perfectly fit the location. We started at Torrey Pines, down on the beach. We then headed up to the trails for some more rustic/naturey shots. The shoot ended in their North Park neighborhood where we stole some urban shots pre-dusk and also had some fun with night photography. During the shoot, we actually ran into a couple whose wedding we photographed last year. It was pretty awesome to be shooting on the street and hear “Bernadette and Rick!” We felt very celebrity-like. (Just kidding!) We had a blast with Rodion and Lusha and can’t wait until their wedding!

Jen and Brett, one of the fabulous couples we have photographed recently got our work and their wedding photos and story published. They didn’t mention that they were submitting the article and images, but we found out when we received the magazine in the mail. What a great surprise!

Here are some images from a conference we shot a few weeks ago for one of the leading 3D CAD Design Software companies, SolidWorks. We’ve photographed their annual conference every year for the past 4 years, and we love shooting their events because they always have really interesting keynote speakers and they really know how to throw a party. This year’s event was in our hometown at the San Diego Convention Center. Below are some of the keynote speakers, one being Tony Fadell, who created the first versions of the iPod and iPhone. He actually invented the Mp3 player. He just recently started a company called Nest that created and sells a new kind of thermostat for the home. The other speaker shown below is Mike Rowe, of Dirty Jobs, a show on the Discovery Channel. It’s really exciting to be around the people who design and create the products that makes our lives easier…Another big part of the conference is the parties! The company makes sure that their attendees have a good time, as you can see below. This year, they rented out two blocks of the Gaslamp Quarter for a block party that all of the restaurants on those blocks participated in. There was an awesome band, in photo above (The Trip), a few food trucks, belly dancers and Indian food, Spanish guitar, sangria and paella, burgers and beers, and just lots of fun. On the last day of the event, the event planning team, who has known us for a few years now, asked us to bring our little guy, Dylan by the Convention Center. So, Dylan, had a little tour of our workplace for the week… Such a fun week that was! Below is a shot of the attendees rushing the hall on the first day.

Some behind the scenes, unexpected shots from a recent event at the San Diego Convention Center. Rick has a gift for spotting that one person in a crowd that is having a visibly emotional experience and capturing it, like in the image below.Ronald McDonald made an appearance at the event to accept a donation on behalf of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. After matching donations made by conference attendees, ACN wrote a check for over $100,000 to the charity. The attendees were pretty psyched to be there!A little kid at the event break-dancing. Pretty awesome!

The Birthday Boy

Our little boy is now three years old! Hard to believe how fast the time has gone. Here are a few images from his birthday festivities…Waking up the morning of his birthday and looking outside to confirm that ‘the sun is up.’This cake was made by the talented Amy Black at Cupcakery. There are always yellow buses outside his school, so this was our little tribute to the school, which he will be graduating from this month…

When I asked Dylan what he wanted his birthday cake for his family party to look like, he said, “marbles.” Since we know an awesome cake artist, we knew she could make his request happen. And here’s the result: cake ball marbles! They were delicious!

Natalie and Brendan | Scripps Seaside Forum

This couple has the greatest story… Natalie is from the US and Brendan is Australian. They first met while they were both traveling solo in Thailand. And they had their first date five months later in Greece. And that was pretty much it for them…they were in love and stayed together even though they were many thousand miles apart. So cool! They are both just full of life and Brendan is quite the joker. We had a lot of laughs and a lot of fun with these two… Here are some images from their beautiful wedding in La Jolla at the Scripps Seaside Forum. The venue is an incredible combination of beautiful, natural coastline and stunning modern architecture. The vibe of the day was vibrant, lively and fun, as you can see from the colors and especially on the expressions on people’s faces! We took photos of the newlyweds on Mt. Soledad, where Brendan proposed, which was kind of perfect with the American flag waving in the background. Natalie will be joining Brendan in Australia, which will be their home base from which I’m sure they will depart on many adventures together. Their reception was a killer party with lots laughs (and cries), corn hole competitions and and even a worm competition, where two of the guests danced ‘the worm’ across the floor. The winner received a bottle of Tequila that had the worm inside it
