Our little hero

Jan 6, 2012

Something really big happened in our lives this Fall, and we haven’t had a chance to blog about it because it kept us very busy.  In September, Rick and I left our little guy with family in San Diego to go photograph a wedding in Monterey.  The afternoon we left, Dylan was playing soccer with my brother (who is a soccer coach) and his kids. He tripped over the ball and fractured his femur.  I never would have thought that he could get such a serious injury from such a seemingly safe activity. He had so much love from my brother and his wife while he received medical care from the staff at Children’s Hospital, who were amazing.  Even though it was scary to be away from him, we really could not have picked better hands for him to be in during this time.  Dylan was such a trooper through it all and had the iPad with him in the hospital (a true Godsend) so Curious George could keep him smiling.  Upon our return from Monterey, Rick’s Dad flew in from New Jersey to stay with us for a month and watch Dylan during our photo shoots (this happened during our busiest time of year!).  We couldn’t have gotten through this time without him and the support of our local family and friends, who brought us meals and visited Dylan.  Although the next six weeks with him in the spica cast proved to be quite challenging for Rick and I, Dylan embraced his new adventure and rarely complained. At his age, he’s completely in the present moment, rarely thinking about the past or future, so he never asked when the cast would come off or fretted about this being unfair. He just accepted it without a thought… an incredible act I strive towards on a daily basis! It didn’t take long for him to learn to crawl, sit up, stand, ride a bike, and even do yoga!  We are so proud of him. We are also thankful that we have a job that allowed for us to take some time away from work to be there for our son, and we are so incredibly appreciative to our clients who were so understanding during this time.  Here are some images that we’d like to share… Dylan’s cushy play area we set up in the living room..perfect for lounging, rolling, and tickling!
