Megan and Zach tie the knot this weekend, so we wanted to take a minute to toast to their wedding! Zach proposed to Megan at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar, so it was the perfect location for their engagement session. When we arrived, they were dancing while enjoying a chilled glass of white wine on the balcony.  They are so excited to start this next chapter of their lives together, and you can tell that they are enjoying every minute of it.  The session ended with a walk on the beach in Del Mar…because it would be a shame not to end a great date with a sunset walk on the beach!

To us, the engagement session is a beautiful opportunity to tell a part of your story, and it also serves as a snapshot of who you are as a couple at this point in your lives.  Our hope is that in the future, you will look back on your engagement photos and see the freshness of your love and the excitement you had to share your lives together…and that you will be able to connect to those feelings so that they last forever.  So that’s our toast to Megan and Zach:  May you always share the love and excitement that you have for each other in these photos!  Cheers to dancing and enjoying a glass of wine together with a view!

Here they are, enjoying a moment at the spot where he proposed and she said, “yes!”

Have you ever meet a couple who glow with the spark of new couple in love, share the bond of best friends and emanate the grace and charm of an old married couple?  Meet Lizzie and Jonny.  These two are the best, and we feel so lucky to get to be a part of this special time in their lives.  Their photo session included two locations that meaningful to them and their story.

We started off at their home, which is a special place to them…as it’s their first house.  Starting the engagement session at their home was also perfect because they were able to include their dogs (Dover and Zoey) in the shoot, but they didn’t have to worry about managing the dogs on a leash for the entire shoot.  We also had fun incorporating some items from their home into the shoot. Jonny’s last name is Laughter (pronounced ‘Laut- er’), so it lends itself to some fun wedding gifts and hashtags 😉

The second part of the shoot was in Balboa Park, also a very special place for Lizzie and Jonny.  We visited some of our favorite spots, the incredible tree roots in Palm Canyon, the Alcazar Gardens, the Plaza outside the Museum of Man, and Cabrillo Bridge.  The sun started to set just as the shoot was ending which created a beautiful glow matched only by the glowing faces of these two.  It’s very clear that Lizzie and Jonny will make each other happy for a lifetime, and we cannot wait to celebrate this beautiful couple on their wedding day!
A cutting board with their names etched into it; a great engagement gift and perfect prop for a detail shot of their hands.

Again, an irresistible prop, considering their last name.

[…] Lizzie and Jonny got married on a beautiful Summer afternoon on the USD campus, where Lizzie spent many hours over the course of their dating years working on her masters degree in education.  This is important to their story because they met while Lizzie was teaching third grade at an elementary school in San Diego where Jonny was also working as the facilities manager. Lizzie needed a table for her class and after Jonny realized there wasn’t one available, he made one for her.  That’s right. He made her a table!  Needless to say, Lizzie was impressed and this was just the beginning of their journey together.  At their wedding, they even had THE table he made when they met, and their guests all signed it. What an amazing idea. […]

Meet Ciara and Eugene.  These two spunky kids know how to have fun…in style.  They love to enjoy a night on the town, so the Gaslamp Quarter was the perfect setting for their personalized engagement session.  Also their wedding will take place at the historic US Grant, and they will have a lot of guests coming in from out of town. So, they thought it would be fun to give their guests a taste of Downtown San Diego when they share the engagement photos…to get them excited for the wedding weekend. Their shoot was full of so many great engagement shoot ideas!

As you can see, this fun-loving couple is equal parts laughter, sweetness and stunning style.  It was a blast exploring the streets of downtown with them, and we are excited to be able to document this precious time in their lives together. Engagement shoots are a great opportunity to document who you are as a couple.  Thanks for braving the rain and San Diego Convention Center steps in your heels, Ciara.  And thank you to Nason’s Beer Hall, a part of the new Pendry Hotel, for letting us use your beautiful urban space for some creative shots.

As a wedding photographer, it was REALLY hard to choose just a handful of images to share here, since these two are so photogenic!  Let us know which image resonates most with you in the comments below and why.  For me (Bernadette), it’s the shot above.  This image came about when I saw the reflection of the street scene in the window as they were walking inside to check out an interior space with Rick.  The ‘San Diego’ in the vintage yet timeless typeface seemed to fit their wedding vibe and with the downtown street scene, it tells the story of a place that’s really important to Ciara and Eugene. The photo was taken at The Pendry Hotel in San Diego, which looks like a great wedding venue by the way.  I was able to capture them sharing a sweet, intimate moment that is a juxtaposition to the busy streets outside.  Ultimately, what I get from this image is that Ciara and Eugene find peace and contentment in each other as they exist together in a busy, fast moving world.  It’s a moment of silence amidst the noise. All in all this downtown engagement shoot at the Pendry hotel and Gaslamp provided many options to shoot in a documentary wedding photographer’s style and reflect something unique about our newly engaged couple!

I luv all the pics. #3 displays the beauty of their relationship from the inside out. They are each other’s air. That pic says our heart beats as one.
#4 is the story of their relationship. They make each other feel like they are on a cloud.

0001Kate and Lance have such a great story.  They have climbed mountains and traveled the world together.  You could make postcards of all of the places they have been together…and they did! They made postcards from their travels for their guests to sign at their engagement party!  They are in amazing shape (as you must be to climb mountains) and also are madly in love.  These two can make every outing into an adventure.  We hope these photos of their adventures in Balboa Park and at Sunset Cliffs capture some of that adventurous spirit and sweet love.  This wedding is going to be so much fun!0003000400050006000700080009001000110012

001We had a beautiful afternoon with this gorgeous couple in the back roads of Jamul.  As we strolled down the Sweetwater River Bridge, Derek reminisced on his childhood memories driving down this bridge, which no longer has access to cars.  Then, we headed to Derek’s childhood home, where he and Cecily met for this first time at his sister’s wedding.  The session ended with a sweet ride in the car that Derek and Cecily drove on their first date.  So many sweet memories! How cool that these guys were able to create new ones that they can now look back on for years to come. Congrats Derek and Cecily! 002003004005006007008009010011
